The diseases of the planet are usually convulsions, stammering, apoplexy, lisping, dumbness, stoppage of humour in the nose or head, nervous cough, hoarŽseness, gout in the hands and feet and vertigo. An afflicted Mercury can cause mental diseases.
An individual who has Mercury in an exalted position at birth, is led to choose, and he becomes distinguished in the intellectual and literary pursuits. But the native, who is unfortunate enough to have the -planet afflicted at birth is likely to develop a mean and an unprincipled character. He is bound to be full of deceit, low and cunning. Amongst those who have an afflicted Mercury are many promoters of lies, swindlers, forgers and thieves.
The most truly sensitive of all the planets is Mercury. Mercury responds to every impression. And Mercury is not modified by the signs as are the more passive planets. On' the other hand each' sign excites him to give a special impression of opinion.

The best influence upon Mercury is Saturn. WithŽout the steadying hand of Saturn, to hold him in tutorship to a profounder wisdom, Mercury may be frivolous and vain. But when Mercury is overpowered by Venus, the mental qualities become subservient and slavish. And then the native of this planet doest not have a mind of his own.
However, whatever aspects may exist, it will not alter the essential character of the planet.
